About
If you are defined by your life journey, then my photography was exposed and developed at an early age by my environment and circumstances. I grew up on a farm in eastern Victoria, Australia. Mountain scenery, bush settings, trickling creeks, the smell of eucalyptus and other native flora and fauna. Tall timber, open grassy paddocks, the sounds, smells and sights of the farm. Although isolated socially, the surroundings were inspirational. As a kid, my first need was to see what was beyond the mountains. Curiosity and cameras go together. I learned to love beauty – particularly the landscape. My curiosity about people and places gave rise to my interest in photographing the obvious connection between both in terms of beauty. After a short career in administration, marketing and management, I found my way to my true passion. Tracking through commercial, advertising and fashion fields, I arrived in the wedding and portrait markets – where I have found a never ending source imagery involving beautiful (non-performing) people in beautiful places. There is however more to life and art. This site is the repository of my current day photographic doodling. To create a beautiful image is still the most perfect of aspirations. Free Light is an opportunity to push my fine art boundaries, chronicle the elements that make up my inspiration and provide an outlet for experimental photography. The objective – to go out and create at least one new image per week purely for the love of the art. Feel free to leave a comment. All images copyright R Jewell
